“No B.S. straight forward answers with no legal mumbo-jumbo, lawyer talk.”
Defense Base Act Lawyer Bill Turley
Working for REED
If you work for REED Mission Critical Support Services you are probably one of the many REED employees that “has completed 9,300 personal security missions”, successfully transported more than 16,900 clients over a distance of 3 million miles and are “located in remote, third world, multi-cultural and high-risk geographical environments”. This means that there are very real hazards and dangers that constantly surround you when you’re doing your daily work.
REED even admits that they have “encountered numerous insurgent attacks” and while they have “100% client safety record” there’s nothing about their employee safety record. The potential for you getting hurt while working overseas for REED is very real. But that’s why the Defense Base Act exists to protect the rights of overseas civilian workers that get injured.
Is my injury covered by the DBA?
If you got hurt while working overseas for Reed Inc, most likely you are covered under the Defense Base Act. Whether you were injured while actively escorting a client or even if you get hurt in the gym. It is understood that folks who work in the industry must stay fit and there is pressure to perform. What I can tell you is if you've been seriously injured you need to talk to an experienced DBA attorney ASAP.
Getting your DBA benefits requires numerous steps that can take a while to process and result in anything. This can be frustrating, especially if you are home and working a job that doesn’t make you the same kind of money you did when you were working for REED. It can be hard enough to get food on the table, not mention all the medical bills your injury is racking up.
I know this. I have been representing these types of cases for 25 years. I know that you have already sacrificed a lot and all you want is to get better and provide for your family. I get it.
But I’ve got a legitimate claim and I’m getting my DBA benefits - I don’t need a lawyer....
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard this. Only to get a frantic call later on, when someone’s DBA benefits have been cut. It’s usually not a matter of if, but when your DBA benefits are going to be stopped. Especially if you’re seen as low hanging fruit because you don’t have a good DBA lawyer.
Second, I suggest you check out this article on the Top 10 DBA Questions (see Questions 2, 3, 4, and 6....).
Don’t wait until tomorrow. Seriously.

Can I Lose My DBA Coverage?
One of the best ways to learn is by the mistakes of others. Knowing what not to do is just as important as knowing what you should be doing. I cover the biggest mistakes that people make with their DBA case in an article here. Don't let the insurance company tricks and traps snare you into tanking your case.
Reed Inc. and PTSD
Based on Reed's description on their website, insurgent attacks are a major concern. Being under fire can lead to PTSD which i cover in this article here. Find out about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and why it is considered a cumulative injury.
These resources will help you get as prepared as possible for your DBA case.
Win with The Truth
You can win your DBA case with honesty and integrity. In fact, that is the only way you are going to win your DBA case. I’ve seen it time and time again. Upset folks in the same situation as you use their emotions to cloud the truth of their DBA case. They start to exaggerate or falsify details, thinking it will make their cases stronger.
It does not.
The only way you are going to win you DBA case is by the judge believe you and your claim. Which means that telling the truth is going to be your best line of defense. The truth wins. It’s as simple as that.

"After calling your firm I did not need to call anybody else"
"One of my biggest concerns was what the future actually was for me. After the injury I now have limitations and could no longer work overseas which meant I was not able to make the living I was earning. After calling your firm I did not need to call anybody else. Grace called me back really quickly which made me feel confident... I did research your web site after my friend told me about your firm. It was helpful to see that others in my same situation were helped by your firm."
