Unumprovident: A Primer in Bad Faith Insurance Tactics

Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies enormous scheme to use financial budgets and targets to terminate disability claims has seen the bright harsh light of an American courtroom. When placed under the scrutiny of a jury trial, the acts of Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies are a primer in Bad Faith Disability Insurance tactics.

These Defendants have wrongfully terminated disability policy after disability insurance policy. These bad faith terminations have saved these Defendants a billion dollars.

Unumprovident's Use of IME's in denying disability insurance claims

This article concerns one facet of these companies scheme to rip-off insured. Here, we discuss the use of independent medical examinations, ("IME's") in denying disability insurance claims. The following are findings of fact and law in a Federal trial concerning Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies:

Employees were instructed to limit their use of independent medical examinations. They were told that IMEs were not to be used unless absolutely necessary.

The limitation on the use of IMEs to gather information is part and parcel of another practice--that of overvaluing the opinions of in-house medical personnel who never examine the insured over the opinions of either treating physicians or IME doctors.
Similarly, Defendants' in-house medical personnel engage in cherry picking records to find grounds for denying claims regardless of actual merit. Documentary evidence establishes that in-house medical personnel "focus upon any apparent inconsistencies in the medical records or other information supplied by claimants, rather than attempt to derive a thorough understanding of the claimant's medical condition."

Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies have a practice of piecemealing claimants' medical conditions and do not consider the totality of the medical circumstances.

These outrageous tactics used by Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere companies are an incredible testament to greed. These companies turned the claims department into a profit center.

It is all about Greed for Unumprovident and companies

Defendants tout their financial success in denying disability claims in e-mails declaring "YIPPPPPPEEE !!!!!!" The only thing that changes are the names of the insured who get ripped off. Insured who are facing financial ruin due to Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and Paul Revere not paying legitimate claims.

In instance after instance these companies have denied legitimate claims. Most of these claimants are respected doctors, lawyers, architects, and other professionals. They have substantial incomes and thus were owed substantial disability benefits. These professionals bought disability insurance in order to protect their families from financial ruin if they were to become disabled. Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and/or Paul Revere companies collected their insurance premiums year after year. When these professionals become disabled from their own occupation, these companies did not live up to their end of the bargain.

If your disability claim has been denied by Unum, Unumprovident, Provident Life, and/or Paul Revere companies be sure to consult with an Insurance disability claim lawyer.
