Maximum medical cure means a Seaman's medical condition is not going to improve any further. That is, there medical condition is not going to get any worse or get any better. Further medical treatment is not going to get the injured Seaman any better.

Maximum medical cure is also called "MMI."

Oftentimes, there is a dispute concerning whether a Seaman has reached maximum medical improvement. This is an issue to be determined in your Jones Act lawsuit.

Generally, the employer is only responsible for a Seaman's medical treatment until the Seaman reached maximum medical improvement. This is called "Cure."

Further, the employer is only obligated to provide maintenance until the Seaman reached maximum medical improvement.
