Why Fantastic Ratings, Awards, Teaching, and Leadership Are A Benefit To You
We don’t mean to suggest the only way someone can be a really good California Admiralty lawyer is to have fantastic ratings, win prestigious lawyer awards, be asked to teach other lawyers at lawyer seminars and be elected to lead lawyer organizations. What these things do mean is that people that do know good lawyers from bad lawyers have chosen us for these honors.
What is Admiralty Law?
Admiralty Law is the law of the Sea. Admiralty Law is, in fact, the “federal common law.” Meaning, that much of U.S. Admiralty law was created by the courts. Including, the issue of admiralty jurisdiction.
That being said, admiralty law also is comprised of a series of statutes (Jones Act, Longshore Act, Death on the High Seas Act, Suits in Admiralty Act, for example).
Admiralty law is very, very different than California State law
We are "admiralty lawyers." Every year we see non-admiralty lawyers commit legal malpractice in their fumbled attempts to handle an admiralty case. Don't be "that guy," (or gal).
The lawyer you choose to represent you makes all the difference in the outcome of your case. We not only practice admiralty law, we also teach lawyers admiralty law. We are Proctors in Admiralty and have been representing people injured on boats and ships since 1986. We understand that your financial future usually depends on the success of your case. We are dedicated to helping our clients get the compensation that they are entitled to under admiralty law.
Just like with the sea - Admiralty Law is extremely unforgiving to the unprepared
With "admiralty jurisdiction" comes the application of Federal Maritime Law. Meaning that you are not in Kansas anymore. Literally and figuratively. Federal Maritime Law is just as unforgiving to the unprepared as the sea is to those unprepared. There are various Statutes, procedures, laws, and exceptions to laws. The point being that if you are injured in a boat or ship accident you need to consult with an good honest admiralty lawyer. Don't dillydally. Some maritime laws require you to act as soon as 6 months after you are injured.
