The Ready Reserve Force, or RRF, is a fleet of 51 reserve ships. The Ready Reserve Force fleet is maintained and crewed by the Maritime Administration. The ships can be activated in four, five, 10 or 20 days. Military Sealift Command inspects the ships. When activated, RRF ships come under the operational control of MSC.
The RRF includes fast sealift ships, roll-on/roll-off ships, lighter aboard ships, modular cargo delivery system ships, heavy lift ships, crane ships and government-owned tankers. Because of their configurations, RRF ships handle bulky, oversized military equipment.
Know your rights:
If you are injured aboard a USA owed vessel then your case will fall under the Suits in Admiralty Act/ the Public Vessel Act. All injury lawsuits under the Suits in Admiralty Act or the Public Vessel Act must be filed in US Federal District Court.
The Federal Courts are made up of Circuits. For example, if you file a lawsuit in California will be heard by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Most Suits in Admiralty Act lawsuits can be filed in the Federal District where the injured Seaman resides.
In some Circuits, including the Ninth Circuit, you can only sue the United States. Even if you are employed by a private outfit.
