The Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act (NIFA)

The Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act (NIFA) is an extension of the Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act (LHWCA). The NIFA provides workers' compensation coverage to civilian employees of Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentalities.

NIFA applies to civilian workers who work for non-appropriated entities such as the Navy Exchange, Navy Resale System, Morale Welfare and Recreation, AAFES and the like.

The Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentalities Act is administered by the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP).
