There are additional services available but they are limited. If the incident occurred on or after January 1, 2004 and resulted in the permanent inability to perform duties, you may qualify for supplemental job displacement benefits if your employer doesnt offer alternate work. This compensation assists in paying for educational retraining, skill enhancement or both, from state-approved or state-accredited schools.
The law specifies that employees who do not return to work within 60 days of the end of temporary disability payments will receive a voucher. The voucher amount is based on the disability percentage:

Up to 10% of voucher funds can be utilized towards counseling.
Per California state law, an employer is not required to provide the supplemental job displacement benefit if, within 30 days prior to the end of the temporary disability payments, an offer of modified or alternate work is made and the employee rejects or fails to accept the offer in the form and manner prescribed by the Division of Workers Compensation administrative director.
Injured workers or those with additional inquiries regarding supplemental job displacement benefits may utilize the services of the DWC Rehabilitation Unit.

Is there a replacement for the vocational rehabilitation program in California?

A:

There are additional services available but they are limited.  If the incident occurred on or after January 1, 2004 and resulted in the permanent inability to perform duties, you may qualify for supplemental job displacement benefits if your employer doesn’t offer alternate work.  This compensation assists in paying for educational retraining, skill enhancement or both, from state-approved or state-accredited schools.

The law specifies that employees who do not return to work within 60 days of the end of temporary disability payments will receive a voucher.  The voucher amount is based on the disability percentage:

Perm partial disability less than 15%     = $4,000
Perm partial disability 15% - 25%          = $6,000
Perm partial disability 26% - 49%          = $8,000
Perm partial disability 50% - 99%          = $10,000

Up to 10% of voucher funds can be utilized towards counseling.

Per California state law, an employer is not required to provide the supplemental job displacement benefit if, within 30 days prior to the end of the temporary disability payments, an offer of modified or alternate work is made and the employee rejects or fails to accept the offer in the form and manner prescribed by the Division of Workers’ Compensation administrative director.

Injured workers or those with additional inquiries regarding supplemental job displacement benefits may utilize the services of the DWC Rehabilitation Unit.
