Teenage Drinking - A Tragedy in Rancho Santa Fe

Thinking about having a house party for teens and serving alcohol?

The death of Torrey Pines student Alex Capozza provides a sobering reassessment.

Details have emerged that there was a house party a Rancho Santa Fe mansion. The San Diego Union has reported the house party was at the home of Michael Flynn if Rancho Santa Fe, California.  As a result, Alex Capozza is dead and Jamie Arnold was recently released from the hospital.

While our hearts go out to these families,  this is a "teaching moment."  Parents and adults have to be held accountable. San Diego's new Social Host Ordinances hold parents and home owners responsible to alcohol served at their homes.

San Diego DUI lawsuit lawyer Bill Turley, "Teen DUI's account for untold tragedies every year.  Social Host Ordinances hold parents responsible for teen drunk driver deaths."

Social host liability laws hold individuals responsible for underage drinking events on property they own, lease or otherwise control. Unlike laws that prohibit furnishing alcohol to youth under 21, social host laws focus on preventing underaged drinking on private property without regard to who furnishes the alcohol.
